When screwing in pre-drilled holes, tapping screws remove material when biting into the fastening material, rolling a thread.
Types
- Type C: thread and cone tip
- Type F: thread and flat tip
- Type R: thread and rounded tip
Stainless steel sheet metal screws are softer than case-hardened steel tapping screws. This means they bite poorly into the fastening sheet metal. Therefore they are only recommended for use in soft materials, e.g., aluminium.
