Protective coating

DBL 9440.40 accordant (silver coloured zinc-flake coating with lubrication integrated into sealing, chromium (IV) free) > VDA 235 – 104.42

Corrosion resistance

  • ≤ M8 – approx. 480 h, no base metal corrosion as per DIN EN ISO 9227 – NSS

  • ≤ M10 – approx. 720 h, no base metal corrosion as per DIN EN ISO 9227 – NSS

The corrosion resistance values herein apply to DIN EN ISO 9227-NSS (salt spray tests) accordant corrosion tests no earlier than 24 hours from the start of the coating (i.e., prior to sorting, packaging, transporting, and/or assembly). Resulting from unavoidable handling and assembly, the values may diminish.

In most cases, the corrosion resistance values provided by salt spray tests cannot be applied in real assembly and use conditions. When planning the connection and choosing a suitable corrosion protection coating, the materials connected, any coatings, and environmental conditions during use must be taken into account.

Friction coefficient

μ tot = 0.09 – 0.14 (VDA 235 – 101)

Notice

Flange screws reduce the risk of pre-tension loss caused by contact area setting. Compared to normal hex screws (without a flange), the surface pressure under the screw head during tightening is low, as the force is divided onto a wider area.

Benefit:

  • Less setting required due to fewer parts to be connected compared to connections using washers.

  • The concave washer presses against the contact surface, increasing the elasticity of the connection. This counteracts setting and creeping movements and generally also pre-tension loss.
